History and Politics are popular and successful subjects at Greenacre. 100% of History GCSE grades achieved are at A*- C and over 50% are at A*- A, whilst more than two-thirds of grades achieved in A-Level Politics are at A*-B. Greenacre pupils have gone on to study History at Oxford University, Royal Holloway and University of Kent, and Politics at the Universities of Sheffield, East Anglia, Loughborough and Keele.
Dr Robert Waller, Head of History and Politics, is a former Fellow and Lecturer in History and in Politics at Oxford University and has published several books including eight editions of the The Almanac of British Politics and most recently contributing to Prime Minister Corbyn and other things that never happened a book of counterfactual ‘what ifs’ where he discussed what would have happened if Lyndon Johnson had been shot down in his only wartime combat mission in 1942. Dr Waller has been a political pollster and worked with senior figures in government, personally advising several former Prime Ministers.
In recent years the department has offered trips to Belgium and Berlin as well as historical places of interest nearer to home such as Rochester Castle and a unique behind the scenes tour of the Supreme Court and Parliament made possible by the personal connections of Dr Waller.
