Business Studies
The teacher in charge of Economics and Business studies at Greenacre is Mrs B. Bradley. Business Studies is taught as a GCSE option from year 10 and from September 2009, year 10 pupils will be studying the AQA Business Studies syllabus, which will help them to acquire subject knowledge and offer the following benefits:
- provides an understanding of the commercial world and how finance is raised and used by the government to pay for the nation's goods and services.
- encourages students to consider the practical application of business and economic concepts.
- explores the theories and concepts in the context of events in the business and economic world.
- provides progression for students wishing to continue their studies to A-level Business Studies and A-level Economics.
Economics and Business is taught as an AS/A2 option in years 12 and 13.
It is the aim of the Economics/Business Studies Department to:
Develop an understanding of relevant economic and business concepts and theories and an ability to apply them to a range of real-world issues.
Apply economic and business concepts and theories in a range of contemporary contexts and appreciate their value and limitations in explaining the real-world phenomena.
Acquire a range of skills including the ability to make decisions in the light of evaluation and, where appropriate, the quantification and management of economic and business information.
Be aware that economic and business behaviour can be studied from the perspectives of a range of stakeholders including customers, creditors, owners/shareholders, employees and society. Students should understand that these perspectives are interrelated.
Analyse, explain and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the market economy and the role of citizens, businesses and governments within it. At GCSE, students study Bus iness Studies, while at AS/A2 levels we bring economics into our teaching, offering the Edexcel Economics and Business syllabus. This enables our students to get an economics and business perspective by:
- Encouraging students to explore a range of issues, drawing on data from local, national and global sources
- Focusing on organisations in different sectors and environments, looking at problems and solutions, and making justifiable decisions for them.
