All girls follow a Modular Mathematics course that leads to the Edexcel GCSE examination. Each year group is divided by ability into small sets so that the most able can be taught in a challenging environment whilst those who find the work more difficult can benefit from a slower pace and more individual time with the teacher. Mathematics is very popular at A level and we have students studying both Mathematics and Further Mathematicss in the sixth form.
Girls learn Mathematics in many ways. Each Mathematics room is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and PCs for class use. As well as traditional teaching we make extensive use of the latest IT based Mathematics resources. Also lessons can include probability experiments, problem solving activities, model making, statistical projects, questionnaires and games.
All girls in Years 7 and 8 enter for the UK Junior Mathematics Challenge with some very pleasing results. Some girls in years 9,10 and 11 take the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge. Four girls from years 8 and 9 represent the school in Regional final of the UK Team Mathematics Challenge each year. Not only have the girls performed well but they have also enjoyed competing against other schools in a stimulating Mathematics environment.
